Danny Bakan - "...and truth is spectacular"
"...not just one or two great songs with decent filler; instead, these are powerful, full-bodied songs, sung from the heart without preaching, without pretension."
Steve Fruitman CIUT-FM
*************
Banjo Folk Pop at its best! Danny Bakan blends rootsy clawhammer banjo,
finely crafted songs, a band of top notch players and technical panache,
to offer an album full of heart and hope. Emerging from the opening notes of "Here", the sonic landscape is unusual, with bazouki, clawhammer banjo and deep resonant sounds culled from a stand-up bass framing Bakan's telling lyrical sensibilities. From the Cajun echoes in
"84,000 Ways" (a song about the myriad of ways that parents- divorced,
widowed, straight and gay- raise their children), through the biting banjo
and military marching snare of "How The Mighty Can Fall", to the
stunning "Twin Towers of Babel" (a response to 9/11), these songs tell
stories of our times. Among other great tunes, the
mix is topped off with an all-out kitchen party in "The Back Roads to
Jerseyville", "Napoleon Crosses the Rhine", and a Canadian version of
the American classic folk song "Buffalo Gals". Old Time Fusion Like you've never heard before!
"Danny Bakan takes banjo-based songwriting to places you would
never expect... an accomplished and passionate player!"
David Francey, JUNO winning songwriter
